Kan man tale om en fornyet demokratisering af det offentlige rum? Hvilken rolle spiller kunsten og litteraturen i byrummet? Hvilket potentiale har kunsten og litteraturen udenfor deres sædvanlige rammer? Disse spørgsmål vil blive sat under lup til dette FRESH EYES-seminaret, som Galleri Image, Aarhus Billedkunstcenter og Aarhus Litteraturcenter afholder den 25. november på Katapults Scene på Godsbanen.

Flere og flere kunstnere og forfattere arbejder med at indtage det offentlige rum og inviterer andre med ind i disse fornyede rum. Vi har inviteret nogle af dem samt en håndfuld forskere til at komme og give deres indspark i debatten om forholdet mellem kunst og sted.

CAMP: Byen som historisk slagmark

Kunstprojekter udført i byrummet resulterer ofte i ophedede debatter, kontroverser og magtrelaterede konflikter. I sit oplæg vil Sabine Nielsen kaste lys over denne tendens via en konkret case, CAMP’s deltagende fotoprojekt edgwareroad.org, og hun vil diskutere, hvordan kunstnerisk genererede konflikter og forhandlinger kan betragtes som en politisk kritisk praksis.

Den franske Oulipo-digter læser op fra sine digte om Aarhus, som han har skrevet som et bidrag til FRESH EYES-projektet.

ATLAS OVER AARHUS er et ambitiøst projekt med det mål at skabe en litterær topografi af byen. Med andre ord stræber projektet efter at få litteratur om byen placeret i byen på de steder, som teksterne beskriver. Hvilken betydning har det for kunsten, at den række ud mod verden, fysisk i byrummet og ved at inkludere de lokale i den kunstneriske proces?

 

Kl. 12.10 – 12.30: Kunstner Kyungwoo Chun (KOR)

’Skrift’ i performance og offentlig kunst som en bestræbelse på at skabe spirituelle forbindelser mellem og for mennesker. Oplægget tager udgangspunkt i kunstnerens egne værker.

Frigjort poesi

Hvad betyder materiale for tekstens indhold? Hvor vigtig er konteksten og stedet, hvor det bliver sagt? Hvilken mening bidrager lys med til en tekst? På hvilken måde er kroppen og stedet (kon)tekstuel? Digteren Morten Søndergaard vil komme ind på disse spørgsmål og tale om sit arbejde med ord, der er gjort fri af bøger og sine stedsspecifikke værker, både eksisterende og fremtidige projekter.

 

Kl. 14.10 – 14.30: Kunstner Marianne Jørgensen (DK)

Marianne Jørgensen vil præsentere to projekter. I begge projekter arbejdede hun med og i det offentlige rum som både kunstner og kurator. Det første projekt, ”Love Alley”, er en miniature by, som hun arbejdede på i 8 år. Den kommenterer på et lokalt byområde i nærheden af kunstnerens hjem. Det andet projekt, ”SKULPTURLANDSBY SELDE 2016”, finder sted i en forstad, hvor hun placerer et stort antal skulpturer i et offentligt område såvel som i et beboelsesområde.

Kl. 14.50 – 15.10: Forfatter og forsker i litteratur Martin Glaz Serup (DK)

Poesi funde(re)t i det offentlige rum

Om rum, sted, kulturel erindring og poesi læst, skrevet og fundet i det offentlige rum. Dette oplæg vil undersøge hvordan og hvilken slags poesi, man kan finde i det offentlige rum. Der vil blive lagt særligt fokus på Morten Søndergaards skulpturelle ordinstallationer og Jacques Jouets metrodigte. Det vil alt sammen handle om konceptuel poesi, kulturel erindring og det hverdagsagtige.

What happens to art when you take it out of the museums and galleries? What happens to literature when it detaches itself from the white pages of a book and instead conquers nature, gables and park benches? That is what a number of artists and researchers will discuss at this open seminar on the democratizing effect of art and literature in the public space.

On Friday November 25th, Galleri Image, the Aarhus Center for Literature and the Aarhus Center for Visual Arts will host the open seminar FRESH EYES on Art and Literature in the Public Space at Godsbanen in Aarhus. The seminar will address how everything from municipal art projects to graffiti and poems on gables have an impact on our perception of urban spaces, and how the city can be utilised for artistic purposes.

 

The seminar is a part of the cross-aesthetic project FRESH EYES – International Artists Rethink Aarhus, which is the result of a collaboration between Galleri Image and the Aarhus Center for Literature in connection with Aarhus 2017 – European Capital of Culture.

CAMP: The City as Historical Battleground

Art projects realized in urban public spaces often result in heated debates, controversies and power related struggles. In her presentation, Sabine will shed light on this tendency and do so by presenting a concrete case, CAMP’s participatory photo-project edgwareroad.org, and she will discuss how artistically generated conflicts and negotiations can be thought of as critical political practice.

ATLAS OVER AARHUS is an ambitious literary project with the goal of creating a literary topog­raphy of the city. In other words, getting literature about the city placed in the city at the places that it is describing. What does it mean for art that it is reaching out towards the world, physically in urban space as well as by inclusion of local citizens in the artistic process?

Detached poetry

What does the material do to the content of a text? How important is the context and the place where it is said? What kind of meaning does light give to a text? In what way is the body and the place (con)textual? The poet Morten Sondergaard will elaborate on these questions and talk about his work with words detached from books and about his site-specific works, both existing and future projects.

 

Kl. 14.10 – 14.30: Visual Artist Marianne Jørgensen (DK)

Marianne Jørgensen wants to present two art projects at the seminar. For these two projects she worked with and in public spaces as both an artist and a curator. The first project, ”Love Alley”, is a miniature city she worked on for 8 years, which comments on a small town area close to her home. The second project, ”SKULPTURLANDSBY SELDE 2016”, takes place in a suburban village, where she is placing a large number of sculptures in a public and residental area.

Poetry found(ed) in public

On space, place, cultural memory and poetry read, written and found in public. This talk will investigate how and what poetry can be found in the public space. In particular in the sculptural word installations of Morten Søndergaard and the metro poems of Jacques Jouet. It will all be about conceptual poetry, cultural memory and the quotidian.
